Bix Medard - C'est si bon
nevenmusic さんが 2011/06/13 にアップロード
Electro Trip-Hop duo Bix Medard revisits the old french classic "C'est si bon" (also known as "Its so Good"). This recording was specialy recorded for the live fashion show by "Y-dress?" (as in Why dress?). "C'est si bon" can be found on the "Bix Medard - Y-dress?" album http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/y-dress/id341300792 .
" ..... the woozy aura that results follows a distinctly European mode of existential coolness, in contrast to the extroversion found in American romantic pop forms...nowhere is this more apparent than in her cover of the standard "C'est Si Bon"—listen to Medard's version and then to the classic version by Eartha Kitt .... Downtown Science is the first and only album released by rap duo Downtown Science. It was released in 1991 through Def Jam Recordings and was mainly produced by member, Sam Sever. The album was a critical success, earning many positive reviews, however it was not successful commercially, thus the album and its two singles, "Room to Breathe" and "Radioactive", did not make it to the Billboard charts.

Whut? Thee Album is the debut album from New Jersey Hip Hop artist Redman. Redman had only rapped on record prior to this album on EPMD's Business As Usual and Business Never Personal. EPMD's Erick Sermon produced the majority of the album, but Redman also handled much production.
This effort was a major success and established Redman as one of the premier hip hop artists of the 90's. It only reached #49 on the Billboard 200 in 1992, but was certified Gold by the RIAA on June 11, 1993. It is commonly hailed for its upbeat, sample driven funky production and its humorous lyrics. The record was originally given a rating of 4.5 mics out of 5 in The Source in November 1992. In 1998, the album was selected as one of The Source's 100 Best Rap Albums.

From 1990 Album: "Gotta Get A Grip".....
LaTasha Sheron Rogers (July 30, 1970 -- June 4, 1991), better known as MC Trouble, was a rap artist, and the first female rapper signed to Motown Records.
MC Trouble had a minor hit with the song "(I Wanna) Make You Mine" featuring labelmates The Good Girls released May 25, 1990. "Make You Mine" peaked at #15 on the Billboard Magazine's Hot Rap Songs charts. The title track of her debut album Gotta Get A Grip was released as a second single on September 14, 1990. Gotta Get A Grip showed promise as a mix of hardcore rap and more commercial R&B.
Trouble died in her sleep on June 4, 1991 while at the home of a friend in Los Angeles shortly after suffering an epileptic seizure brought on by complications from a preexisting brain tumor which resulted in heart failure. The posthumous single "Big Ole Jazz" was released in 1992 and appeared on the House Party 2 soundtrack resulted in a second & final hit on Billboard's rap singles chart.

Da Lench Mob ft. Ice Cube - Guerillas In The Mist
VintageHipHopSeattle さんが 2011/05/18 にアップロード
From 1992 Album: "Guerillas In The Mist".....
Da Lench Mob was a West Coast hip hop group associated with Ice Cube. The group consisted of rappers J-Dee, Shorty, T-Bone and Maulkie.
The group made its debut on Ice Cube's first solo album, AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted.
With Ice Cube as its executive producer, Da Lench Mob released its debut album, Guerillas in tha Mist, in 1992. The video for the album's lead single, also titled "Guerillas in tha Mist", became popular in the fall of 1992. The 2004 video game, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas featured "Guerillas in tha Mist", appearing on the fictional radio station Radio Los Santos.
In 1993, J-Dee was convicted of and sentenced to life in prison for murder, and was dropped by Lench Mob Records. He claims to be innocent. Instead of disbanding, the group brought in a South Central Los Angeles-based rapper called Maulkie (former member of the Ruthless Records group "Yomo & Maulkie") for its second album Planet of da Apes, released in 1994. They broke up soon afterwards.

Del was born Teren Delvon Jones (born August 12, 1972 in Oakland, California).
Cousin of renowned rapper Ice Cube, Del began his career writing lyrics for Cube's backing band, Da Lench Mob. In 1991, with the help of Ice Cube, Del released his first solo album, I Wish My Brother George Was Here, at the age of 18. The album was a commercial success, largely due to the popularity of the hit single, "Mistadobalina". Ultimately Del, who was not pleased with the limited musical range of the album, took matters into his own hands, and severed his production-artist relationship with Ice Cube for his next album, No Need for Alarm. Del is considered a member of the Native Tongues Posse according to the myspace page.
No Need for Alarm also saw the introduction of the famous Oakland clique Hieroglyphics, whose original members included the widely acclaimed Souls of Mischief (Opio, A-Plus, Phesto and Tajai) Casual, Pep Love, Del, and producer Domino. No Need for Alarm was a bold move on Del's part as it allowed him to develop, display, and solidify his unique style as an MC, and also helped to expose both the regional Oakland sound of hip hop, as well as the freestyle based, "golden era-97" style of hip hop being expanded at the time. Del grew up in the Boston area and attended Melrose public school systems before moving to Oakland to pursue a rap career.

Due to touring, mundane activities, and frequent psychedelic drug use, it would be another five years before the release of his third album. About a month before the release of his third album Future Development Del received a letter from his label, Elektra, stating that his contract had been terminated.
Del's third solo album Future Development became available in 1998. The album was only available on the Hieroglyphics website in tape form. Future Development was re-released in 2002 under the Hieroglyphics Imperium label. Del also released another collaborative work with the Hieroglyphics crew in 1998, 3rd Eye Vision, it was the Hieroglyphics crew's first album. Two years later, Del released his fourth solo album, Both Sides of the Brain, as well as Deltron 3030 which was a collaborative work with artists Dan the Automator Nakamura and Kid Koala, featuring a special guest appearance by Scotty "the Great Gatsby" Beezle. Exposure from the 3030 project helped to expand Del's fan base—the 3030 project worked well as a marketing move because the CD capitalized on the growing interest of computer technology, incorporating motifs of science fiction, telling stories about life and hip hop based in the year 3030, and infusing much of the popular internet terminology and culture in circulation at the time.
2003 also saw the release of Full Circle, the second full-length album from the Hieroglyphics crew.
In 2004 Elektra released The Best of Del Tha Funkee Homosapien: The Elektra Years without the approval of Del. The CD only includes songs from his first two albums, along with a handful of b-sides from that era. Del was not pleased and advised people to not buy the CD, saying it was just Elektra trying to make money off of him due to his newfound fame.
Together with his crew, Del has established his own independent record label, Hieroglyphics Imperium Recordings, which primarily consists of an expanded Hieroglyphics roster and a few other artists with whom the group collaborates regularly.

Responsible for the damage? Dutch producers Erik de Koning and Ton T.B., who revealed the original version in the year 1998. Years later, this one still haunts the hearts of millions. Let 'Greece 2000' take you to wherever you want to go!

Keith Murray - The Most Beautifullest Thing In The World
BVMUndergroundHipHop | 2011/03/24
Before Murray ever recorded an album, he battled Big Daddy Kane under the name MC Do Damage. Later, he was introduced to Erick Sermon of EPMD by K-Solo. Sermon included Murray on his album No Pressure on the single "Hostile". His first album, The Most Beautifullest Thing in This World, was released in 1994 on Jive Records. The title track from this album remains Murray's biggest solo hit. This album was given 4 mics by The Source.
Murray's second album Enigma was released in 1996 on Jive. It received similar ratings from critics, but it was not quite as commercially successful as the previous album. In 1998, The Def Squad covered "Rapper's Delight" by the Sugarhill Gang. They would later release their own album, El Niño. Murray's third album It's a Beautiful Thing was released in 1999. Murray also appeared on the song "Home Alone" by R. Kelly.
Def Jam released his He's Keith Murray in 2003, containing the single "Yeah, Yeah U Know It." This song has guest appearances from fellow Def Squad members Redman and Erick Sermon. Murray dedicated "Christina" to his sister. That same year, Murray was featured on the video game Def Jam Vendetta.
He released his fifth solo album Rap-Murr-Phobia on July 31, 2007. It debuted at number 52 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, selling about 13,000 copies in its first week. The lead single is "Nobody Do It Better" featuring Tyrese & Junior.
Murray's vocals/crowd hyping appears on the song "Elektrobank" by The Chemical Brothers from their album Dig Your Own Hole.

Mos Def, Nate Dogg & Pharoah Monch - Oh No
VintageHipHopSeattle | 2011/03/22
From 2000 Album: "Lyricist Lounge Vol.2".....
Lyricist Lounge 2 is the second installment in Rawkus Records Lyricist Lounge album series. The release was one of Rawkus' most commercially successful releases, featuring the hit crossover singles, "Oh No" and "Get Up", the former charting on the Billboard Hot 100. Despite its success, Lyricist Lounge 2 drew criticisms from underground fans, mainly due to the album's more commercial sound, and also because of its focus on established artists, unlike the first installment, which largely featured up-and-coming MC's.
The album features appearances from Mos Def, Pharoahe Monch, Nate Dogg, Q-Tip, Wordsworth, Cocoa Brovaz, Beanie Sigel, Royce Da 5'9", Ghostface Killah, Saukrates, Redman, Talib Kweli, dead prez, Kool G Rap, M.O.P., Big Noyd, Prodigy, Erick Sermon, Sy Scott, Planet Asia, Punchline, Cobra Red, Phil Da Agony, C-Town, Dilated Peoples, Master Fuol, JT Money, Pastor Troy, Macy Gray and Guru, as well as late hip hop legends The Notorious B.I.G. and Big L.

DJ Honda ft. Beatnuts, Fat Joe & Common - Out For The Cash (5 Deadly Venoms Mix 1995)
投稿者: VintageHipHopSeattle | 作成日: 2011/03/13
From 1995 Album: "DJ Honda".....
DJ Honda's Site:
http://www.djhonda.com/
Katsuhiro Honda (本田勝裕, Hōnda Katsuhiro?, born 1965), better known as DJ Honda, is a Japanese hip hop DJ, turntablist, music producer, CEO, clothing line designer, and entrepreneur.
DJ Honda moved to Tokyo when he was 17 years old to pursue his dream of playing in an American influenced rock band. He started a band called, "The Clique" as the vocalist and guitarist. However, the band struggled and DJ Honda was forced to seek additional employment. He began DJing at the popular nightclubs in a small nearby city, Shizuoka where he was first introduced to hip hop music and various turntable techniques, including scratching & beat juggling. Ultimately, DJ Honda landed premiere gigs in Tokyo's largest clubs while perfecting his turntable techniques. By this time, he had created a popular name for himself as a DJ. DJ Honda also appeared on Tokyo radio stations and remixed popular tracks for local record companies.
After entering New York City's New Music Seminar's Battle for World Supremacy in 1992 and placing runner up, DJ Honda made an international splash. After the success of this battle under his belt, DJ Honda decided to move to Los Angeles to make a buzz for himself in the U.S. It was here where DJ Honda forged notable contacts such as Ice-T, Eazy-E, Tha Alkaholiks, Xzibit & many other West Coast talents. Sony Music Japan then approached DJ Honda for a recording contract where he eventually released two albums: h, DJ Honda & h II. This signing caused DJ Honda to move once again to New York City. He was ahead of his time in Japan at this stage. After securing this new recording contract with Sony, DJ Honda launched his signature h, DJ Honda collection including the infamous "h" baseball caps, men's clothing, accessories such as sunglasses, neck ties, umbrellas, shoe line, wallets, etc. In New York City, he cultivated many valuable relationships with artists like Melle Mel, Grandmaster Caz, Prince Whipper Whip, Universal Zulu Nation including Afrika Bambaataa as well as some of the emcees who would later be featured on his self-titled debut LP album, h, DJ Honda: Common, Redman, Gang Starr, Fat Joe, Biz Markie, JuJu & Psycho Les of The Beatnuts, Brand Nubian's Grand Puba & Sadat X, and more. With the success of h, DJ Honda album released in U.S. and Japan Versions, DJ Honda makes a quantum leap from his debut album to his sophomore compilation, h II which featured acclaimed emcees such as Mos Def, KRS-One, The Beatnuts, Cuban Link, Keith Murray, De La Soul, Missin' Linx, & more. "Trouble In the Water", the first single from h II was a masterpiece between emcee and producer: De La Soul and DJ Honda. The second single from h II was DJ Honda & Mos Def's collaboration, "Travellin' Man" which became a hit single world wide, having its music video shot in various places around the world from Brazil to South Africa. DJ Honda toured the world after h, dj honda and then again after releasing h II.
It was at this time that DJ Honda decided to leave Sony Music Japan behind to embark on opening his own, independent record label, "DJ Honda RECORDINGS" simultaneously in New York City and Tokyo with Seoul, South Korea branch office opening in 2002. DJ Honda released two albums on Christmas Day, 1999: h 2000, a compilation album featuring all production by DJ Honda coupled with New York's prominent emcees and Turntablist Revolution: I.T.F. World DJ Compilation Album Vol. 1, a compilation of scratches & beat juggling tracks by the best turntablists from around the world. The first official U.S. & international single, "El Presidente" with Jeru the Damaja was distributed by RED and the music video was in rotation on national TV stations such as B.E.T.'s Rap City, MTV2, and other local cable shows. With the momentum of releasing this independent debut single, DJ Honda released his junior, compilation album titled, h III in Japan and Korean Versions only. He enlists yet another group of New York's finest lyricists: M.O.P., Teflon, The Beatnuts, Gravediggaz, Jeru The Damaja, Parish "PMD" Smith of EPMD, Triple Seis, 8 Off Agallah, Black Attack along with Rob Jackson, DJ Alladin, and more. For the first time ever, DJ Honda collaborates solo with one emcee on an album titled, "Underground Connection" with Parish "PMD" Smith of the duo group, EPMD and is released in Japan and S.Korea with bonus tracks from Korean hip hop artists, Erick Sermon and a few other emcees.

Heltah Skeltah - Operation Lockdown (1996)

From 1996 Album: "Nocturnal".....
Get The Music:
http://www.amazon.com/Heltah-Skeltah/e/B000AQ3LEG/ref=ntt_mus_dp_pel
Heltah Skeltah is a hip hop duo consisting of members Rock (aka Tha Rockness Monstah) and Ruck (aka Ruckus and Sean Price). The two are members of New York supergroup Boot Camp Clik, along with Buckshot, Smif-N-Wessun and O.G.C.. The name "Heltah Skeltah" is a reference and homage to The Beatles, specifically their song "Helter Skelter" from the famous album The Beatles.
Heltah Skeltah debuted on Smif-N-Wessun's album Dah Shinin' in 1995, appearing on the tracks "Wontime", "Cession at da Doghillee" and "Let's Git It On". Later in 1995, they grouped up with fellow Boot Camp members O.G.C. to form The Fab 5 (another nod to The Beatles), and released a surprise hit single, "Leflaur Leflah Eshkoshka". Out of The Fab 5 members, Rock and Ruck received the most amount of attention, due to their notable charisma and chemistry. The duo released their anticipated debut Nocturnal in June 1996, which included "Leflah", as well as the singles "Operation Lock Down" and "Therapy". The album sold over 250,000 copies in the United States, and has become a classic in the underground Hip Hop scene because of its grimy, basement sound and strong lyrics. The duo released a group album with the Boot Camp in 1997, then followed in 1998 with their second effort Magnum Force. The album's lead single, "I Ain't Havin' That" (sampled from the A Tribe Called Quest track "Hot Sex", with the chorus sampling Redman's 1996 hit "Pick it Up"), became a Hot 100 hit. Despite the single's success, the album was criticised due to its lighter content. Ruck and Rock seemed disillusioned with their lack of sales, and split up soon after the Magnum Force album. Rock began having problems with Duck Down Records, and split with the label, signing to DJ Lethal's Lethal Records. He planned to release an album titled Planet Rock, but the label folded and the album disappeared. Sean Price remained with the Camp for their second album The Chosen Few in 2002. Heltah Skeltah reunited in 2005, making appearances on Sean Price's solo album Monkey Barz and Smif-N-Wessun's Smif 'N' Wessun: Reloaded. The duo continued work with the Boot Camp for their third group effort The Last Stand, released in July 2006. In 2007, Heltah Skeltah had a track included on the Official Joints mixtape, a collection of previously unreleased songs by NYC rappers. Heltah Skeltah dropped their third album together tentatively titled D.I.R.T. (Da Incredible Rap Team) which was released on September 30, 2008.[1] Other solo future projects include Monster Music and Mic Tyson. They will also be releasing the Shell Shock DVD. Sean Price is currently working on Random Axe.

"Dead Presidents" is the debut single released in promotion by rapper Jay-Z's from his debut album Reasonable Doubt. Its lyrics about the drug dealing underworld have made it a hip hop classic and a staple in Jay-Z's collection of tracks. The song's producer Ski samples Lonnie Liston Smith's "A Garden of Peace" for the track's melody and "Oh My God (Remix)" for its percussion. The single was a commercial success as indicated by its RIAA certification as a gold single in June of 1996.
The actual single "Dead Presidents" does not appear on Jay-Z's debut album, but instead "Dead Presidents II" does. "Dead Presidents II" has the same beat and chorus as the original, but different lyrics. This version can be found on Jay-Z's 2002 greatest hits compilation Chapter One: Greatest Hits.
Reasonable Doubt is the debut album of American rapper Jay-Z, released June 25, 1996 on Roc-A-Fella Records in the United States and on Northwestside Records in the United Kingdom. The album features production by DJ Premier, Ski, Knobody and Clark Kent, and guest vocals by Memphis Bleek, Sauce Money and The Notorious B.I.G. It peaked at #23 on the Billboard 200, received platinum status in 2002,[2] and sold 1.4 million copies as of 2006.[3] Four singles were released, the most popular being "Ain't No Nigga" and "Can't Knock the Hustle". Both reached the top 40 in the United Kingdom, but were less popular in the United States; the former reached #50 on the Billboard Hot 100, while the latter reached #73.
Reasonable Doubt along with Only Built 4 Cuban Linx... by Raekwon which came a year before are considered to have been the defining hallmarks of Mafioso rap, in addition to having "revolutionized the hip hop scene".

New York-born rap singer Dana Dane (born Dana McLeese) combined light-hearted rap with a love of fashion. While his recordings, including "Cinderfella Dana Dane," "A Little Bit of Dane Tonight," and "Tales From the Dane Side," established him as a powerful rapper, his tastes in clothing inspired him to open IV Plai Boutique. Although the shop has since closed, Dane continued to attract attention with his unique outfits.
Raised in the Walt Whitman housing project in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, Dane first displayed his talents as a member of a rap group, Kongol Crew, which he formed with High School of Music and Arts classmate Slick Rick. Launching his solo career after graduating from high school, Dane signed with the Profile record label in 1985. While his debut single, "Nightmare," offered hints of his talents, Dane broke through commercially with his first full-length album, Dana Dane With Fame, in 1987. The success of the album, which achieved gold record status, was matched by subsequent albums Dana Dane 4 Ever in 1990 and Rollin' Wit Dane in 1995. During a late-'90s interview, Dane described his musical approach as "writing stories that have chronological depth as well as moral values."

VintageHipHopSeattle | 2011年02月04日 |
From 1993 Album: "Look Ma Duke, No Hands".....
Look Ma Duke, No Hands was released in 1993 on Loud/RCA Records, the label which roster contained the likes of Wu-Tang Clan, Mobb Deep and M.O.P. And at the first listen, one would probably think this is an east coast record sound wise. But it was recorded in L.A., and some well-known west coast names drop bars on this one, like King Tee and Tash on Check It Out, and Tha Alkaholiks as a whole on Beddie-Bye. Daddy Freddy, the pioneer in blending HipHop and Ragga , adds some vocals on Phuck What Ya Heard. Mad Kaps own Dr. Soose puts icing on the cake by playing the live trumpet on most of the songs.

Sir Mix-A-Lot was born Anthony Ray in Seattle on August 12, 1963. An eclectic music fan but a rabid hip-hop devotee, he was already actively rapping in the early '80s, and co-founded the Nastymix record label in 1983 with his DJ, Nasty Nes, who also hosted Seattle's first hip-hop radio show. His first single was 1987's "Posse on Broadway," which referred to a street in Seattle, not New York; it became a local hit, and paved the way for his first LP, 1988's Swass, which also featured the popular novelty "Square Dance Rap," and a Run-D.M.C.-style cover of Black Sabbath's "Iron Man," with backing by Seattle thrashers Metal Church. The video for "Posse on Broadway" landed some airplay on MTV, and became Sir Mix-A-Lot's first national chart single in late 1988; that in turn pushed Swass into the Top 20 of the R&B album chart, and by 1989, it had sold over a million copies. Also in 1989, Mix-A-Lot released his follow up album Seminar, which produced three charting singles in "Beepers," "My Hooptie," and "I Got Game"; while none were significant crossover hits with pop or R&B audiences, all performed well on the rap singles chart, and helped Seminar become Mix-A-Lot's second straight platinum album.

From 1991 Album: "Breaking Atoms".....
Breaking Atoms was produced using the E-mu SP-1200. Allmusic's Steve Huey writes that the album's acclaim lies mostly in its production, which popularized a number of now widely imitated techniques. Huey describes that the "intricately constructed tracks are filled with jazz and soul samples, layered percussion, off-kilter sampling effects, and an overall sonic richness." RapReviews' Dan Mennella also notes that the beats are the cornerstone of the record. Dan Nishimoto of PopMatters considers the album's sampling to be "neatly layered, its subject matter is modest, and its overall tone is simply well executed fun." In his book Classic Material: The Hip-Hop Album Guide, Oliver Wang writes that Large Professor as a producer "thinks in complete song structure, never focusing on one single element—a loop, a break—but always juggling them in unison." ...

Crooklyn Dodgers - Crooklyn (Remix 1996)
VintageHipHopSeattle | 2011年01月01日 |
"DJ Mighty Mi's Remix from 1996".....
The Crooklyn Dodgers are a hip-hop supergroup based in Brooklyn, New York City, consisting of rotating members.
They appeared in three separate incarnations since 1994. The first two incarnations recorded for the soundtracks for Spike Lee films, Crooklyn and Clockers, respectively. The theme connecting The Crooklyn Dodgers songs, aside from the Spike Lee films which they were made for, is the topic matter, which tends to comment on the state of affairs in and around urban New York, as well as other issues affecting everyday life; as Jeru spouses "Chips that power nuclear bombs power my Sega".
The first group was composed of Buckshot, Masta Ace and Special Ed. Their one and only record was "Crooklyn," produced by Q-Tip, and was featured in the 1994 film Crooklyn. It contains scratch samples from "Who Got Da Props?" by Black Moon and "The Place Where We Dwell" by Gang Starr. It also features samples of a radio broadcast of a Brooklyn Dodgers game. The music video featured appearances by Brooklyn-born athletes
